Statistics Reveal Schengen Consulates Received Over 16 Million Applications in 2018

Schengen Visa Statistics - 2018Another slightly over 16 million applications have been lodged at the consulates of the 26 Schengen Member Countries all across the globe in 2018.

The most recent Schengen statistics reveal that the number of applications has decreased once again. In 2018, 0.9% less Schengen visa applications were lodged for processing compared to the previous year.

In 2017, there were as many as 16,155,613 applications received, 6.3% more than in 2016, when there were only 15,192,556 applications. In fact, the number of Schengen uniform visa applications has been decreasing for five years now, except for last year.

Data shows that while the refusal rate in 2017 was 8.2%, in 2018 it increased to 9.6%, which means 16.5% more applications were rejected.

The Schengen Area consists of Europe’s most developed countries. While the nationals of 62 world countries do not need a visa to the Schengen Area for short stays, the rest of the world citizens should obtain a Schengen visa before they make a trip here.
