EU, Tuvalu sign visa waiver agreementTuvaluans visiting European Union countries won’t need visas for short stays under a new agreement signed in Brussels.

A media release from the delegation of the European Union for the Pacific stated that the new visa regime provides for visa-free travel for EU citizens when travelling to Tuvalu and for citizens of Tuvalu when travelling to the Schengen area, for a period of stay of 90 days in any 180-day period.

“The agreement will encourage people-to-people contacts, boost tourism, and invigorate business between the EU and Tuvalu,” the EU stated.

The visa-free travel applies to everyone except those carrying out a paid activity.

Citizens will need a valid ordinary, diplomatic, service/official or special passport to qualify.

According to the EU, the visa-free travel applies to all categories of persons and for any kind of purposes of travel (for instance tourism, cultural visits, scientific activities, family visits, business etc.), except to persons travelling for the purpose of carrying out a paid activity.
